Preparing for Your BATD Exam

This information is for dancers who have already confirmed their participation in BATD exams. Please review the details below carefully so your dancer arrives prepared, calm, and ready for a positive exam experience.

Exam Location

The School – Creative Arts Education

BATD exams will take place at The School – Creative Arts Education. Please arrive at the time listed in your child’s individual schedule.

Exam Day Requirements

What dancers should wear and bring

Dancers should arrive fully dressed, with hair completed, and with everything they need for their exam discipline.

Exam attire and hair

Black bodysuit

Black tights

Hair in a tight bun

No clips or hair wraps

Hair gelled back neatly and securely

Dancers should arrive ready to go. Please complete hair before arriving at the studio.

What to bring

Water bottle

Light snack

Extra tights

Correct shoes for each discipline

Extra hair supplies, if needed

If your child has exams spaced out throughout the day, they may also bring a quiet activity to use while waiting between exams.

  • Tap: tap shoes
  • Jazz: jazz shoes
  • Ballet: ballet shoes
  • Acro: barefoot, unless otherwise instructed
Parent Viewing

Exams are closed assessments.

Parents are not able to watch inside the exam room. Dancers will be supported and guided through the process by their teachers and the exam structure.

What time should my child arrive?

Each dancer has an individual schedule listed by last name. Please check your child’s accordion section carefully for their arrival time and exam time.

Can parents watch the exam?

No. BATD exams are closed assessments, so parents are not able to watch inside the exam room.

What should my child wear?

Dancers should wear a black bodysuit and black tights. Hair should be in a tight bun, gelled back neatly and securely. No clips or hair wraps.

What should my child bring?

Please bring a water bottle, a light snack, extra tights, the correct shoes for each discipline, and any extra hair supplies your dancer may need.

If your child has exams spaced out throughout the day, they may also bring a quiet activity to use while they wait between exams.

What happens during the exam?

Dancers will complete the BATD material they have prepared in class. The examiner will assess their work based on the expectations of the discipline and level.

When will we receive results?

BATD results are processed after the exam session. We will share results with families once they have been received by The School.

Multiple Exams

If your child is attending more than one exam

If your child is participating in more than one BATD exam, all of their confirmed exam times will appear together under their name in the student schedule below. Please check each listed exam carefully, including the arrival time, scheduled exam time, and discipline.


If there is time between exams, dancers may stay at the studio between their sessions. Please send a water bottle, light snack, extra tights, and a quiet activity if they will be waiting for an extended period of time.
